In the La Posta sector, at the entrance to the city of San Gabriel, in Carchi, 550 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were seized that were hidden in a dump truck that at 05:30 this Friday, February 4, was moving with direction to the interior of the country.
Danilo Montoya, head of the Anti-Narcotics Police in Carchi, explained that a person of Ecuadorian origin who was driving the car with Pichincha license plates was arrested for flagrant crime, when he tried to travel through the city of San Gabriel, located 40 kilometers from Tulcán.
The drug was camouflaged between the drawer and the chassis of the dump truck, in a kind of giant cove or space that allowed the packages to be stacked without any security, which fell to the ground when the agents ordered the bucket of the heavy vehicle to be raised.

A total of 550 brick-type rectangular packages sealed with black packing tape that covered the drug were counted during the police check.
Each block was marked with the numbers 888, which presumably correspond to the identification of the cartel that owns the drug, commented one of the troops who participated in the action.
The only one captured, identified as Hernán Andrés Ch., a native of Carchi, would have stated that his destination was Guayaquil.
Now the driver is investigated by the police and judicial authorities to obtain more clues about this case.
According to anti-narcotics investigators, the modalities used to circumvent the existing controls in Tulcán are different each time, especially in the international bridge of Rumichaca, Control Sur and Guagua Negro. However, in addition to these points, these days operations are even carried out in the city in order to block the alkaloid traffic.
The alkaloids are transported from the border city of Ipiales through informal steps and trails that connect Colombia with Ecuador, in Tulcán and Julio Andrade they are collected and then moved to the coastal area of the country. (I)
