Boris Vishnevsky, deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, wrote a statement addressed to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov, in which he asked to check the recent statements of the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov for compliance with federal legislation. The text of the statement is published on the Ekho Moskvy website.

According to Vishnevsky, Kadyrov’s words against human rights activist Igor Kalyapin and Novaya Gazeta journalist Yelena Milashina, whom Kadyrov called “terrorists”, should be checked for signs of crimes under Articles 282 and 119 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. It should be reminded that in the statements of the leader of Chechnya there was also a phrase about the destruction of terrorists and their accomplices.

Vishnevsky noted that many will accuse him of the meaninglessness of this statement, and the case itself will most likely be hushed up. But “if you don’t try, nothing will happen,” the deputy is convinced.

Earlier, the editors of Ekho Moskvy sent an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin. “In connection with the threats made against our colleagues from Novaya Gazeta and the Dozhd TV channel (Recognized as a foreign media agent – “Rosbalt”) from the head of the Chechen Republic, we want to declare our solidarity with the journalists of these publications, ”the document says. Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said the day before that the appeal had been handed over to the head of state.

Novaya Gazeta, in turn, demanded that a criminal case be initiated against Kadyrov under the article on inciting hatred or enmity. The editors filed an application addressed to the head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin. Meanwhile, editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov persuaded Elena Milashina to leave Russia.
