Fifty self-sustaining light poles with zero carbon emissions were delivered to more than 500 inhabitants of the Yacupamba community, in the canton of Guamote, Chimborazo. The luminaire was placed in the playground of the community school, in the soccer and volleyball field, community kitchen and bathrooms, and on the paths of the main road, periphery and entrance of this sector so that its inhabitants have more security. when you leave and return to your daily activities.
The delivery of these devices was possible thanks to an agreement between Cervecería Nacional and the solar energy company Litro de Luz. This endowment responds to the commitment acquired with the Ecuadorian farmers in the Sowing by Contract program, who to carry out their work and move safely needed lighting in the areas where their inhabitants travel the most.
“We are very happy with these light poles because we get up very early to work on our land and at those hours (03:00 or 04:00) we can’t see anything, with these poles we will produce much more; and for young people who always wanted to play soccer or volleyball games on weekends at night, now they can play. We are very grateful to Cervecería Nacional for their help and because they never forget us,” said Miguel Paucar, president of the community.
The posts delivered were made with glass and PVC bottles, integrating solar panels, special batteries and a light with a LED bulb.
“From Cervecería Nacional and champions of our Sowing by Contract program, which aims to boost the country’s economy, promoting the work of the farmer, we developed this strategic alliance that allows us to continue supporting and strengthening the activities of this sector with what we seek to improve the quality of life of our farmers in the program”, commented Sandra Cañizares, Manager of the Corporate Brand and Sustainability of the brewery.
The poles were assembled during a technology appropriation and creation workshop carried out by the Liter of Light engineers with the entire community.. “This occurs with the aim of generating appropriation of technology so that they value and care for it, in addition to learning basic notions of solar energy, its elements, how maintenance is done, if it goes out what can be done,” Camilo said.
