The lifeless body of Robert Darío Macías Barre, 56, who had been missing since last Monday afternoon at the Daule-Peripa dam in Manabí, was found this Thursday morning, February 3.

Relatives told the members of the Fire Department of El Carmen that Macías usually had as a fishing point the Carlos Julio Arosemena sector, of the El Paraíso – La 14 parish (La Manga del Cura sector), near the Manabí border with the province. from the rivers.

Initially, the man’s relatives thought that he was carrying out fishing activities normally, but realizing that he had not returned to his home in El Carmen since last Monday, they moved to the dam on Wednesday, February 2.

There, several friends of the disappeared person stated that they saw him leave from the port of Gualipe towards the upper area, at 11:00 last Monday. But, after 2:00 p.m. on the same day, they found the canoe alone adrift, on the banks of the dam, several meters away from the starting point.

Henry Álava, chief of the El Carmen Fire Department, stated that once the alert was received on Wednesday afternoon, members of the El Carmen institution and the El Paraíso – La 14 and Santa María parishes mobilized with canoes. Until that day they could not find the man.

This Thursday the search for the man was resumed with the help of divers from the Santo Domingo and Manta Police Intervention and Rescue Group (GIR).

After several diving tasks, the body was found by rescuers at 11:30.

The Police carried out the removal of the body and transferred it to the morgue of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.

The members of the support entities presume that the man was sailing in the waters of the dam and that a net became entangled in the motor’s propeller; and, stopping to unravel the material, he would have fallen into the water. (I)
