Deutsche Welle, a German media company, called the measures taken by the Russian authorities against DW “incomprehensible” and constituted an “overreaction”. This is stated in a statement by DW CEO Peter Limburg.

DW will continue to broadcast from the Moscow bureau until official notice of the closure is received, he said.

Liburg added that the company will challenge the measures and take legal action.

In turn, the German Union of Journalists called on the German authorities to oppose the measures taken by the Russian side.

Recall that earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Moscow, in connection with the ban on broadcasting the RT DE TV channel in Germany, is closing the Deutsche Welle correspondent office in Russia. It is also planned to cancel the accreditation of all employees of the Russian DW bureau, to compile a list of representatives of state and public structures of Germany, including those involved in restricting the broadcast of RT DE, who will be banned from entering Russia.

In addition, a procedure will be initiated to consider the issue of recognizing DW as a foreign media outlet acting as a foreign agent.

Earlier, the German Media Regulatory Commission banned RT DE from broadcasting in German in Germany due to the lack of the necessary license.
