Infection with the Omicron strain has a number of distinguishing features, such as a rash and reddening of the fingers. This is reported by the Express edition.

According to British doctors, most patients report the following symptoms in the first two days of the disease: continuous cough, loss of smell or taste, and high fever. The NHS portal informs that although these same symptoms have been shown in other variations of the virus, “omicron” can cause a condition similar to the common cold – a runny nose, headache and feeling tired.

Other symptoms of Omicron infection include lower back pain, night sweats, and muscle aches. In addition, the British also note uncharacteristic signs of infection: more and more patients with a positive test for COVID-19 find redness of their fingers and toes, a rash, and swelling. The rash appears on the neck and on the front of the chest – in places exposed to sunlight. Some infected also complain of chapped and inflamed lips.

Today it became known that a new subspecies of the COVID-19 strain Omicron BA.2, discovered on January 21 in the UK, has reached Russia. According to Rospotrebnadzor, the vast majority of cases of BA.2 infection were detected in Moscow, the Republic of Mari El, the Rostov Region, and the Republic of Bashkortostan.

According to preliminary data, a new subspecies of “omicron” is spreading at a high speed. As of January 21, there were 426 cases of BA.2 infection in the UK, 146 of them in the capital. In Denmark, it now dominates, accounting for 82% of infections, but in the UK and the US, its share has reached only 8-9%.
