The transfer of additional US troops to Europe does not contradict what US President Joe Biden warned his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin about, CNN reports, citing Biden’s own statement.

Commenting on the decision to redeploy troops, Biden stressed that it “fully corresponds to what he told Putin from the very beginning.” According to him, the US is taking such measures to show its allies in NATO and in Eastern Europe that they “are there” as long as “Putin is being aggressive.”

The American president referred to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which states that an armed attack on one or more of the NATO countries in Europe or North America will be considered an attack on the alliance as a whole. In such a situation, members of the alliance should be ready to use any measures to protect the partner, including the use of force.

Recall, on the eve it became known that the Pentagon, in connection with the situation in Europe and the actions of the Russian Federation near Ukraine, is deploying additional forces on a temporary basis to Germany, Poland and Romania. President Biden approved the transfer of troops.
