Presidents of the United States and France Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron had a telephone conversation. The conversation was devoted to Russia’s build-up of military power near the borders of Ukraine, the press service of the White House noted.
They stressed that the leaders “reaffirmed their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and considered ongoing coordination both in diplomacy and in preparation for rapid and severe economic damage to Russia in the event of its further invasion of Ukraine.” Both agreed to maintain close contact, including in consultations with NATO allies and EU partners on these issues.
Earlier, Macron had two phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the Kremlin, the exchange of views on the situation around Ukraine continued.
The day before, Macron did not rule out that he could come to Moscow for a meeting with the Russian president to talk about the situation with Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is also going to meet with Vladimir Putin.
