Police officers in the Irkutsk region have detained two alleged organizers of smuggled supplies of timber “to one of the foreign countries” who were on the federal wanted list, follows from the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region.
They stressed that “through the state border of the Russian Federation, the accomplices transported more than 30 thousand cubic meters of timber worth about 78 million rubles.”
As previously established by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspects entered into contracts “with foreign organizations”, and the legality of the export of timber was confirmed at the customs post with unreliable information about the origin of the timber.
We also recall that last year the legal export of timber from Russia was at its maximum – the country set a “historical record” in this area. In “value terms”, the timber trade brought a record $12.5 billion to the budget of the Russian Federation. Moreover, these data are not even for the entire year, but for the past 11 months, the Federal Forestry Agency clarified.
The record increase came as a result of a “price jump”: timber prices have skyrocketed by 50-100% since the beginning of the year.
