Marmots of the Leningrad Zoo predicted a late spring in the city. Zoo employees reported this on social networks, sharing pictures of red-haired curious animals. We are talking about a playful holiday in the United States and Canada – February 2. According to legend, if it is a sunny day and a groundhog comes out of its hole and is frightened by the sight of its shadow, spring will not come until six weeks later. If he leaves his shelter calmly, since the day is cloudy, frost is no longer worth waiting for.
But the holiday is more relevant for woodchucks, which live from the northern edge of the forest in Canada to the southern Appalachians in the northeastern United States. Petersburg animals do not even plan to wake up in early February.
“Our fat girls Izhorik and Augustina are fast asleep in their shelter and are not going to wake up. Winter in St. Petersburg this year is moderately cold and very snowy,” said the zoo staff, promising not to disturb the animals.
Residents of St. Petersburg in the comments called the marmots “pies”, congratulated them on the holiday and wished them pleasant dreams.
“Of course, I want spring. But let the animals sleep. There is a time for everything, we will wait!” — subscribers wrote under the post.
Earlier, Rosbalt wrote that the famous furry forecaster Phil from the USA also did not wake up on Groundhog Day.
