The Lefortovo Court of Moscow has recognized as legal the ban on making extracts from the materials of the criminal case for lawyers of the former correspondent of the Kommersant and Vedomosti publications, adviser to the head of Roscosmos Ivan Safronov, Kommersant writes, citing informed sources.
According to the sources of the publication, the head of the investigative team of the FSB Investigation Department Alexander Chaban forbade lawyers to make extracts from the classified case of treason, and this measure applied to all documents included in the case, including those not containing state secrets.
In connection with this ban, lawyers filed two complaints stating that such restrictions were contrary to the rule of law. According to lawyers, Safronov’s right to defense was thus violated, but the court did not agree with their arguments.
As the newspaper writes, the ex-journalist’s lawyers called the court’s decision predictable, since it was adopted by the same judge, who at the end of January limited the defenders and Safronov himself in terms of familiarizing himself with the case materials.
Recall that Safronov is accused of transferring secret information about Russian military-technical cooperation and the defense industry to the secret service of a NATO country.
