The city clinical oncology dispensary of St. Petersburg has launched a new magnetic resonance tomograph. As the Rosbalt correspondent was told in the press service of the institution, the technological novelty will allow examining a larger circle of patients.

It is assumed that the device will solve the problem of claustrophobia, since the tunnel will be 70 centimeters wide and 145 centimeters long. The subject’s head will be outside the scanner.

“The acceleration of scanning and examination time significantly expands the range of patients who can use the device,” the press service noted, pointing to the high-quality image of the scan results and a wide range of applications.

The system of the apparatus provides for an “oncological package” represented by protocols and analysis tools. So doctors will be able to evaluate in detail various oncological diseases.

“It can be used to scan the entire body to determine the stage of development of metastases in one continuous approach,” the department added.

The tomograph will allow examining patients 170 times a month. Diagnostics is included in the CHI program.
