The cause of death of People’s Artist of Russia Viktor Merezhko was complications from the coronavirus. His daughter Maria told about this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“Nothing boded trouble until dad fell ill in December. He began to choke, she noted. It was probably the coronavirus. But dad waved it off: it will go away on its own, a common cold. And he self-medicated.”

According to her, Merezhko did not want to go to the hospital. As a result, Maria’s brother Ivan “through the scandal” took his father to the CT scan.

“There it turned out that one lung of my dad was affected by 90%, and the second by 95%. Of course, they immediately put me in intensive care, ”Maria specified.

After that, the screenwriter felt better, the doctors made optimistic forecasts, when suddenly his leg was taken away.

“We decided to do an emergency operation, put him under anesthesia. After the operation, which only revealed some kind of blood clot, my father began to fade away … He left in just a week. I think that the operation under general anesthesia was completely pointless, ”added Merezhko’s daughter.

Victor Merezhko was born on July 28, 1937 on the Olgenfeld farm in the Rostov Region (now the village of Yuzhny, Azov District, Rostov Region) into a family of rural employees. Merezhko’s debut as a feature film screenwriter was the children’s film “Tigers on Ice” (1971). Over the years of creativity, he created over 70 film scripts. So, the comedy “Kin” and the drama “Flying in a dream and in reality” saw the light. As a director, he filmed the series “Sonka the Golden Hand” and “They Didn’t Wait”.

The screenwriter will be buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow.
