32 families were evacuated from their homes due to the ravages of the winter storm in Cotopaxi; there are 1,200 hectares of crops affected and 200 people affected

Damages were recorded in four cantons of that province of the north-central Sierra.

Different entities collaborate in the care of emergencies reported in Cotopaxi cantons due to the intense rains recorded over the weekend.

Members of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, the National Risk Management Service, the National Police, the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion, among others, have been deployed in the Pujilí, La Maná, Pangua and Sigchos cantons to support the needs of the areas most affected by the strong storm.

Last Sunday, the overflow of the Pilaló river caused damage to the main road that connects La Maná with Pujilí and Latacunga. A section collapsed as a result of the natural phenomenon. In addition, two other points show problems.

In other communities of the four cantons of Cotopaxi there were more reports of flooding and damage to homes.

The overflow of the Quindigua river caused water to enter several buildings in the Pucayacu parish, in La Maná.

The Armed Forces, with the support of an aircraft, evacuated a family that was trapped in the Pucayacu sector, in La Maná. In that town, the supply of electricity and drinking water was suspended due to weather conditions.

Last Sunday, the authorities that participated in the session of the provincial Emergency Operations Committee (COE) offered preliminary details of the effects in the different cantons. In these four localities, although La Maná already recommended it from the local COE, the declaration of an emergency was ordered to allocate resources to attend to the news.

For now, the authorities continue to work to guarantee the supply of water for human and animal consumption, install temporary shelters and support with humanitarian assistance.

Governor Oswaldo Coronel said that there are 1,200 hectares of cassava, cocoa, banana and pasture crops affected, loss of 100 livestock and approximately 200 people affected.

Among the damages, the La Maná-Pujilí-Latacunga road is completely closed due to damages in three sections. In one of these even a part of the road collapsed. As an alternate route, you can take the Alóag-Santo Domingo road.

In Sigchos, a third order road was affected as a result of a landslide. Technical teams traveled to the affected areas to intervene in the road system.

Recent rains have also caused tributaries to overflow in Los Ríos province. Several cantons such as Montalvo and Quevedo report problems due to flooding in homes.
