The organizers of the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament fined Russian Daniil Medvedev $12,000 following the results of the semifinal match against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, Interfax reports, citing the publication of journalist Ben Rotenberg on Twitter.

The reason for the punishment was the behavior of Medvedev: during the Friday game, he sharply expressed his claims to the referee.

According to Fox, the Russian tennis player was fined $8,000 for an offensive gesture and $4,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct, TASS notes.

Recall that on the eve of Medvedev could not restrain his emotions and broke into an arbitrator. The Russian athlete was outraged that the father and coach of the Greek constantly told him what was prohibited by the rules, and the judge did not react.

Medvedev demanded that the referee give a warning to his opponent as well. After a skirmish, the referee nevertheless gave the Greek a warning.

Later, the Russian tennis player apologized to the judge and shook his hand after the match. The athlete admitted that negative emotions do not help him during the game. “When such outbreaks arose, I lost concentration and often lost matches,” Soviet Sport quotes him as saying.

As Gazeta.Ru adds, the meeting ended with a score of 7:6 (7:5), 4:6, 6:4, 6:1 in favor of the Russian. Medvedev filed right through 13 times and made 28 errors. Tsitsipas made five aces and made 32 inaccuracies.
