Two crimes were reported in three hours in the provincial capital and San Lorenzo.
Esmeraldas
A 17-year-old adolescent is being investigated as allegedly responsible for the murder of a young man that occurred on the morning of Friday, January 28, on Libertad and Lavayen streets, in the center of the city of Esmeraldas.
The victim was identified as Neycer O., also 17 years old, who was driving a tricycle with another person near the municipal market, witnesses reported, around 08:00.
Two subjects on a motorcycle approached them and one of them fired a firearm several times.
The wounded man was transferred in a private taxi to the Las Palmas type C health center, where the doctors on duty verified his death. Relatives of Neycer O. took him from the sanatorium at their own expense.
After a police operation and a search of a home, agents managed to capture the alleged murderer in the Puerto Limón neighborhood, on the banks of the Esmeraldas River.
Police van shot in San Lorenzo
Around 11:00 yesterday, Segundo Otero Perea, approximately 44 years old, was shot to death. Relatives of the victim told the police officers that Otero left his house to withdraw money to buy spare parts for an outboard motor, to go fishing.
On the way to a bank agency he was shot several times and his relatives chose to take the body to his home. While the alleged aggressor, when observing a police vehicle, fired several shots to avoid his capture by the institution’s servers.
The National Police double-cab truck received a bullet impact from a firearm on the left side when it was in a mechanic in the San Lorenzo canton, northern border.
Meanwhile, on the night of this Friday the 28th, two subjects assaulted a diner in a restaurant in the Quinindé canton with a weapon in their hands. The crime was recorded by a video surveillance camera of the same establishment. (I)
