The leadership of the Russian auto giant KAMAZ was forced, because of the threat of Western sanctions, to abandon the production of military equipment and reduce cooperation with Rostec. Sergey Kogogin, General Director of the company, spoke about this in the program “Special Guest with Tina Kandelaki” on RTVi.
As the top manager noted, “back in 2014 (after the annexation of Crimea to Russia and the introduction of the first anti-Russian sanctions – ed.)”, the management of the enterprise did everything “so that KAMAZ was not in the“ red zone ””.
“The task was to reduce the share of Rostec – we have reduced it. The task was to abandon the production of military equipment – we took this enterprise out of KAMAZ in general and stopped producing purely military equipment, ”Kogogin specified.
At the same time, he acknowledged that it is impossible to completely replace imported solutions, since KAMAZ is integrated into the global automotive industry, and it will not be possible to localize the production of all parts in Russia.
We also recall that earlier in January, the US administration warned manufacturers of electronic chips about possible restrictions on exports in the event of an escalation of the situation around Ukraine from Russia. In addition, Reuters sources indicated that it could also be about restricting Russia’s access to the global electronics market.
It should be noted that back in November-December last year, the world media was filled with the topic of the alleged Russian invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions that should follow. According to the authors and experts of these publications, a sign of “invasion” is the concentration of Russian military equipment in the regions bordering Ukraine. Among the likely sanctions are both the shutdown of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, as well as restrictions against Russian energy companies, and the shutdown of the SWIFT system of “fast” financial settlements.
