It is impossible to talk about the absence of post-covid syndrome after infection with the Omicron coronavirus strain, since not enough time has passed since the spread of this strain, said Ancha Baranova, Doctor of Biological Sciences.

According to her, “omicron” causes a milder course of the disease, not so much due to its characteristics, but because of the increase in the number of vaccinated. According to her, the real reduction in the severity of the disease when infected with “omicron” compared with “delta” is only 20-25%, RIA Novosti reports.

Baranova also noted that the duration of the disease caused by omicron remains the same as when infected with other variants of the coronavirus: most patients recover in five to seven days, a longer course is an unfavorable sign.

In addition, the doctor emphasized that the new strain interacts with the cells of the human nervous and circulatory systems in the same way as its predecessors, so there is no reason to exclude the risk of developing post-covid syndrome after infection with Omicron. The misconception that post-COVID complications do not occur after Omicron infection is due to the recent appearance of this strain, Baranova added, since post-COVID syndrome can only be diagnosed three months after the disease.

The specialist recalled that the post-COVID state has several components: autoimmune, problems with coagulation, with the nervous system, with brain function and with male reproduction, and stressed that in order to completely recover from the consequences of coronavirus need to be rehabilitated.
