In Durán, 21 people were arrested; three of them would be gunmen of the Chone Killer gang

In Durán, 13 murders have been reported during the first days of 2022.

Since January 25, several raids have been carried out in the Durán canton to dismantle the gangs that operate in that territory, where 13 violent deaths have been recorded so far this year.

The Police presented the morning of this Thursday, January 27, to 21 detainees, six with prior records, and several would be members of the Los Chone Killers gang.

Among those arrested would be three gunmen (hitmen) who are being investigated for various crimes in Durán and Guayaquil. The assassins used clown masks to camouflage themselves.

General Geovanny Ponce, National Antinarcotics Director, was in charge of the operation. He mentioned that 23 houses were raided with the collaboration of 15 prosecutors.

15,000 dollars in cash, ten firearms (two handmade) and 38 ammunition were seized; plus a stick of dynamite. two communication radios, 470 grams of marijuana and almost a kilo of cocaine.

In Durán, more than $350,000 a year has been collected for a security fee, but only 5 cameras have been installed

The detainees are from three gangs, said the Police, but most belong to the Chone Killer organization.

In addition, the agents found a warehouse with cars, seven reported as stolen.

The Durán area is one of the most conflictive in Zone 8 due to the high number of crimes and violent deaths that are recorded. The Police links part of the violent deaths to a territorial dispute between gangs. (I)
