The National Assembly summoned the Minister of Transport and Public Works to report on actions against the erosion of the Coca River
The national government has the definitive road alternative that will allow overcoming the road connection problems between the provinces of Napo and Sucumbíos, affected by the regressive erosion of the Coca River, which would have a length of 80 kilometers for an amount of $140 million, whose construction It is projected within two years.
The information was provided by the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Marcelo Cabrera, when he appeared this January 27 before the plenary session of the National Assembly to report on the concrete actions carried out by that State portfolio to face the problems caused by the continuous erosion of the Coca river.

The 80-kilometer-long road will have the Santa Rosa de Quijos-Reventador section, of which the first 15 km in the Quito-Lago Agrio direction are open with a third-order road and the last 20 km have a road executed by the Corporation Electrical of Ecuador (Celec). There would be about 45 km to intervene from scratch.
Cabrera indicated that this definitive alternative implies changing the route to the right bank of the erosion, and will have an approximate value of $140 million, which implies the construction of seven bridges in an execution period of 24 months.
He announced that in the coming weeks the contracting of the technical studies for the construction of this final 80-kilometer road will be carried out, for which financing will be sought from the agency of the Inter-American Development Bank, the Andean Development Corporation or the World Bank.
Interim Alternatives
The Minister of Transportation and Public Works, Marcelo Cabrera, specified that while the definitive road construction is being carried out, the ministry presents two temporary road alternatives, which are to open an 8-kilometer stretch from the town of San Luis to El Reventador; and the second alternative is from San Carlos-El Reventador, which is 19 kilometers long. Topography work has been carried out for these alternatives and the first meetings have been held.
The construction of these sections will be carried out through cooperation agreements between the autonomous provincial governments of Napo and Sucumbíos, and the municipal governments of the area, with the participation of Petroecuador and SOTE, with the aim of providing the necessary machinery and equipment to Execute a provisional route that allows mobility to be established in the sector.
At the moment the topographical team of the ministry finished gathering the technical information for the execution of the provisional road, the studies concluded, and as of this January 27 the machinery is in the sector to start the pilot road.
These roads, the official insisted, will not be the definitive solution, but they will provide connectivity to the towns on the left side of the Quijos River. (I)
