The Ecuadorian Navy seized two vessels allegedly used to contaminate merchant ships with drugs in the south of Guayaquil

Operations have intensified in the Covina estuary after the armed attack on the Playita del Guasmo on Friday the 21st, in which five people were killed.

After operations carried out by six units of the Coast Guard Command in the area of ​​the Covina estuary, south of Guayaquil, two vessels were apprehended that did not meet the technical requirements to navigate in that space.

According to the internal regulation that regulates the power limit of the outboard motors of small vessels, national vessels of less than 20 GRT (including those used for artisanal fishing), may only install and use as a means of propulsion up to two outboard motors, whose sum of power does not exceed 150 HP.

In the case of requiring a propulsion with outboard motors with a power of more than 150 HP, a geolocation system integrated with that of the National Directorate of Aquatic Spaces (Dirnea) must be installed and maintained on the vessel.

The Navy indicated that the Jujan River coast guard boat apprehended the Jeremías vessel, with license plate B-06-94013, gray in color and with a red edge, for exceeding the propulsion power of its engines.

A black boat, without a name and without a registration number, was also seized for not having the respective documentation.

According to the Navy, the two vessels “were allegedly used to contaminate merchant ships with controlled substances (SSF).

The two ships were transferred to the Coast Guard Command and placed under the orders of the Captaincy of the Port of Guayaquil.
