A thief was killed in the suburb of Guayaquil while trying to assault plainclothes police

Two men on a motorcycle tried to assault three PJ agents on 33rd and Bolivia; there were shots and then they found the body on 29th and Oriente.

A 35-year-old man who confronted several police officers was shot and died at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25. It happened on 29th and Oriente, in the middle of the Guayaquil suburb.

The deceased, according to the first reports, would be a criminal who was with an accomplice on a motorcycle and who would have tried to assault two plainclothes policemen who were doing intelligence work on 33rd and Bolivia.

“The policemen, apparently, were carrying out investigative work when they were approached by the alleged antisocials, who were traveling on a motorcycle. One of them was killed, the other fled on a motorcycle,” said Lieutenant Colonel Christian Salazar, deputy chief of the Portete district.

In the shooting, the alleged thief was injured and fell face down in the doorway of a house. The policemen who intervened in the event notified their superiors and investigative units began to arrive at the scene to analyze the evidence and remove the body of the deceased.

General Fausto Buenaño, commander of zone 8, also arrived on the scene and gave more details. He mentioned that the two thieves had committed a robbery in a business on 32nd and García Goyena and then advanced to where the plainclothes Judicial Police agents were.

He also indicated that the deceased today had a record of rape and rebellion.

But it has not been the only violent assault recorded this week in Guayaquil.

On the afternoon of Monday the 24th, a sharpener-style robbery was reported in the center of Guayaquil. Two men were injured in a shootout that occurred in the banking sector when criminals on motorcycles snatched the briefcase of a client who was leaving a bank.

That same day at the coop. Nueva Prosperina, in the northwest of Guayaquil, a group of criminals entered a house to rob. The family was gathered in the room and for trying to oppose the robbery they were shot. A man was shot in the abdomen and his wife was shot in the leg. The criminals took several items. Neighbors heard the shots and called ECU911. They presume that the thieves came from the Socio Vivienda 2 sector.

At 9:00 p.m. on Monday, at a gas station in La Garzota, two armed men robbed seven customers of the service station. They took their cell phones and fled in a white car that was waiting for them outside.

So far this year, 82 violent deaths have been reported in Zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón), there are 254 cases nationwide until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25. (I)
