In the Leningrad region, a criminal case was opened after the death of a woman who was pulled under the ice during Epiphany bathing, the regional department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported. The incident is no longer treated as an accident.
Investigators are looking for those responsible for the crime under Part 1 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Causing death by negligence”). The sanction involves corrective, forced labor, restriction or imprisonment for up to two years.
“The initial investigative actions established that on January 19, 2022, a woman born in 1981. independently jumped into a makeshift hole located on the Oredezh River in the village of Vyra, Gatchinsky District, Leningrad Region, and went under water. To date, the body of the woman has not been found, ”the press service said.
The search continues. According to public figures, two groups with motor drills and infrared cameras joined the work. Rescuers almost lost two underwater robots. Inspection of another 300 meters of the river bottom did not lead to success. Bringing in a diver didn’t help either.

“The missing person has not been found. Search activities continue,” the Dobrovolets diving group, which works together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations and rescuers, volunteers of three other public organizations, clarified.
Local residents in social networks supported all those involved in the search.
“This is a huge job. Take care of yourself. Let there be soon, ”the woman wrote.
Recall that the tragedy occurred on January 19 in an unequipped ice hole during Epiphany bathing. The woman was carried away by the current in front of witnesses. Since then, the search has not stopped.
