Tokayev dismissed Nazarbayev-linked CEC head

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dismissed Berik Imashev from the post of chairman of the Central Election Commission of the country. This is stated in the decree of the head of state.

According to Kommersant, Imashev is the matchmaker of the eldest daughter of the former president of the country Nursultan Nazarbayev, deputy of the Majilis (lower house of parliament) Dariga Nazarbayeva. His daughter Aida is the wife of Nurali Aliyev, Nazarbayeva’s son.

Nurlan Abdirov has been appointed chairman of the CEC, according to another document.

Earlier, Tokayev fired the first deputy chairman of the National Security Committee, Samat Abish, the nephew of the first president of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Other relatives of ex-president Nazarbayev lost their posts. On January 17, his son-in-law Timur Kulibayev resigned as chairman of the presidium of the Kazakh National Chamber of Entrepreneurs Atameken. Prior to this, the Kazakh National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna announced the early termination of the powers of another son-in-law of Nazarbayev, Director General of Kaztransoil JSC Dimash Dosanov. On the same day, the powers of Kairat Sharipbayev, Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz National Company JSC, were terminated ahead of schedule, who, according to Kazakh media, may be unofficially married to the eldest daughter of the first president of Kazakhstan, Dariga Nazarbayeva.
