A sharp increase in cases of COVID-19 infection is noted in the Leningrad region, 290 school classes are closed for quarantine. The head of the region, Alexander Drozdenko, announced this on air on the Russia-24 TV channel.
“If last Monday we had about 300 sick people per day, then today there are 792 sick people,” he specified.
At the same time, according to the governor, there is no sharp increase in hospitalizations. As of last Monday, 1.3 thousand beds were occupied in the region, today the number of occupied beds has increased to 1,380.
Drozdenko pointed out that an increase in cases of COVID-19 infection is observed among children. Currently, 290 classes are already in quarantine, which is the highest figure for the entire period of the coronavirus pandemic. The authorities of the region intend to introduce restrictions on schools, in particular, the cabinet system will be abolished, group flows of junior and senior classes will be divided. It will also be forbidden to visit the school building for people not related to the educational process.
Teachers at school are encouraged to wear masks.
