Chinese scientists have found that drinking champagne, red and white wine can reduce the risk of contracting coronavirus. This is stated in a study, the results of which were published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition, according to FOOD navigator-asia.com.
It is noted that experts studied the data of 473,957 people, of which 16,559 tested positive for COVID-19. Participants were divided into three groups: non-drinkers, drinkers in the past, and drinkers still.
The researchers found that people who preferred red wine had the greatest protection against SARS-CoV-2. When drinking from one to five or more glasses of the drink per week, the risk of infection was reduced by 17%.
White wine and champagne drinkers who drank one to four glasses a week were 8% less likely to get sick, but with excessive use (over five glasses a week), the “protective effect” was almost imperceptible. Those who drank beer and cider, as well as spirits, had a 28% higher risk of contracting the coronavirus, regardless of volume.
