Municipality of Durán collaborates in the readjustment of the abandoned High Performance Center, which will be the headquarters of 300 police officers

The old Durán Training Center for High-Performance Sports will be the permanent headquarters of some 300 police officers from the Order Maintenance Unit (UMO), who are preparing to counteract the crime wave that is plaguing this canton, which together with Guayaquil and Samborondón are part of District 8 of the Police, the most violent in the country, where 80 murders were recorded in 24 days in January.

The place, according to a video released by the communication area of ​​the Municipality of Durán, looks abandoned and in poor condition, without furniture, with part of the ceiling destroyed and even with puddles on the floors where the rooms were initially for athletes. elite, but which will soon be used by the gendarmes.

According to the statement, by order of Mayor Dalton Narváez, the Municipality will intervene with materials and labor. It will also reinstall the electrical wiring, which has been stolen, as recognized by the Zonal 8 coordinator of the Ministry of Government, Stiven Molina, who toured the place located between large industries on the Durán-Tambo road.

The 300 agents will remain in these facilities and from this barracks they will be able to carry out their work in the sectors with the highest incidence of violence in Durán, said the deputy commander of the UMO Zone 8, Santiago Andrade.

The council also carries out the readjustment of the Community Houses, Hogar San José, Gregorio 1, Las Terrazas and Antonio José de Sucre, because another 100 additional police officers will be added to these spaces to carry out coordinated patrol tasks with the Armed Forces.

“This place that is abandoned costs us all Ecuadorians, it has been looted. But now here the space will be given to the police officers who are going to give Durán more security, thanks to the coordination we are doing with the mayor and the governor,” Molina said.
