Due to “tension on the border with Ukraine and possible persecution,” it is better for Americans not to travel to Russia. This recommendation was given to the citizens of the country by the US Department of State, according to the agency’s website.
“Do not enter Russia due to ongoing tensions on the border with Ukraine,” the message says. It also states that there is a danger of “possible persecution of US citizens” in the Russian Federation. It is better not to visit the Russian Federation due to the “limited ability of the embassy to provide assistance to US citizens in Russia, COVID-19 and related entry restrictions, due to terrorism, harassment by the Russian security forces and the arbitrary application of local legislation,” the message emphasized.
It is noted that “citizens who are in the Russian Federation or considering the possibility of traveling to the country should be aware that the situation at the border is unpredictable and there is increased tension.” According to the State Department, “there is a potential for persecution of foreigners throughout Russia.”
Earlier, the State Department recommended starting the evacuation of families of employees of American embassies in Ukraine.
