Turkey has signed the first contract for the export of combat unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) Bayraktar Akinci. Haluk Bayraktar, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Defense, Aviation and Space Companies SAHA Istanbul and General Director of Baykar, announced this to Anadolu Agency.
According to him, “the first export contract has been concluded for the Bayraktar Akıncı strike UAV”, and “deliveries under the contract are scheduled for 2023.”
As Lenta.ru recalls, the engines for these UAVs will be supplied by Ukraine. Back in mid-November last year, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that two companies in the country – Ivchenko-Progress and Motor Sich – signed contracts for the supply of engines for Turkish UAVs.
At the same time, Bayraktar drew attention to the increased demand for Bayraktar TB2 UAVs, which “successfully flew” 420 thousand hours, and contracts for their purchase were concluded with 16 countries.
“Only some 15-20 years ago we looked like a sector engaged in industrial outsourcing. Now we are exporting our high value-added products, including armored vehicles, air vehicles, naval platforms, ammunition, UAVs and attack drones, to 169 countries around the world, including NATO and EU countries,” Bayraktar emphasized.
We also add that in December, the then freelance adviser to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Alexei Arestovich, said that Ukraine, together with Turkey, was going to produce jet drones that would surpass the famous Turkish Bayraktars.
