US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the country will continue to strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities while engaging diplomatically with Russia. He made the announcement on CBS.
Asked if he admits that Russia might make attempts to “buy time to find a pretext for an invasion,” the Secretary of State noted that this is why, at a time when the United States is engaged in diplomatic negotiations, to see if there is an opportunity to strengthen the collective security on a reciprocal basis, Washington is strengthening defense and deterrence.
Blinken said the United States has been actively working in recent weeks to rally allies and partners across Europe and signal that renewed Russian aggression would have enormous consequences. “Last year we provided more military assistance to Ukraine than in any previous year. We acted against Russian agents in Ukraine who are trying to destabilize the government,” Blinken said.
“I just approved the transfer of American military technology in other countries to Ukraine. So we are simultaneously moving in both directions and in any case we will be ready,” he concluded.
