In Manta, a man was left in the middle of the flames after an explosion in his workshop

He was helped by neighbors who sprayed him with a fire extinguisher; is hospitalized for burns

MANTA, Manabi

Néstor Emanuel Gallegos, suffered burns in various parts of his body after being caught in the fire, after an explosion occurred, in circumstances that are being investigated by Manta firefighters.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, January 22, inside the vehicle brake warehouse located at 114th Street and 106th Avenue, in the Tarqui parish of Manta. The place is a few steps from the fire station of this town.

A video was broadcast on social networks showing how the owner of the premises tried to escape from the fire, which had allegedly been caused by a short circuit. While trying to run away from the fire, an explosion was observed.

Immediately a man with a fire extinguisher put out the fire that covered the owner of the premises, who came out with his clothes burned. He was then taken in an ambulance to a hospital.

The fire caused by the explosion also damaged a vehicle that was outside that business, since a large part of its components were burned, this is because it is estimated that there were oils and other liquids outside the premises that triggered a fire with the explosion.

Despite the fact that the Tarqui fire station was near the spare parts warehouse, the help from that station or from the local fire company took a few minutes.

Juan Carlos Medranda, one of the members of the Manta Fire Department, declared daily La Marea de Manta, that they arrived late because the Tarqui parish fire station does not have fire vehicles, and at the same time some firefighters are infected by COVID-19, and therefore they are isolated. (I)
