Moscow has offered Iran a compromise interim agreement on partial sanctions relief in exchange for imposing restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program. The US agency reports on the proposal to Russia NBC citing sources in the White House and Congress.
According to the agency, negotiations between Moscow and Tehran on this topic were conducted with the knowledge of Washington, but at the same time, the States “distanced themselves from the efforts of the Russian Federation.” Washington is also watching with “concern” how quickly the time is running out to reach a compromise with Iran. Sources say Iran is unwilling to enter into an interim agreement and has rejected Russian proposals. The agreement could be the first step for the US to fully return to the 2015 nuclear deal.
Recall, on Friday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at which Blinken called on Russia to use its influence on Iran in order to return from the 2015 nuclear deal.
