So far in 2022, at least 72 people have been murdered in zone 8. Last year, in the same period, there were 20 cases.
On Friday in Guayaquil there were 10 violent deaths and 15 people were injured by bullets in hitman-style attacks, completing the figure of 72 murders in zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón) in the first 21 days of the year 2022. In Guayaquil there are 65 cases.
The crime spree started at 10:00 in the coop. Juan Montalvo, in the northwest, where a 28-year-old engineer identified as Carlos Andrés Arboleda Villota was shot in a store in the sector when he was drinking a soft drink.
The victim had been working for several weeks in a nearby construction site and, according to his family, the gunmen had confused him with another person. Although they took him to a nearby health center, Arboleda bled to death.
The following case occurred in the coop. El Cóndor, in Guasmo, at 5:00 p.m. and the deceased is a man in his 30s who has not yet been identified and who was shot several times.
At 18:00 Edwin Lindao Orrala was found dead on the Progreso – Guayaquil road. His body was on a piece of land, in the middle of the vegetation. He had two gunshot wounds to the abdomen.
Minutes later, an assassination attempt was made on Raúl Clemente Huerta and Abdón Calderón avenues, also in Guasmo. There, a man was shot while driving a car. He was taken to the hospital, where he is recovering. Police are investigating this case as a robbery.
At 19:00 on Trinitaria Island, Anthony Javier Aguilar Holguín was shot. It happened in the coop. Ivory Coast. Four ballistic evidence was found at the scene. His body was taken to the morgue.
At 8:00 p.m. in the Santa Mónica citadel, in the Esteros district, there was another assassination attempt. Jeremy M. was shot. Seven ballistic evidence was found at the scene. Several witnesses said that the victim was a hairdresser and that when helping him they noticed that he had several wounds on his chest and back. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
An hour later, at 9:00 p.m., the massive attack took place on the Playita del Guasmo field, where at least 15 men who arrived in boats entered the sector carrying rifles and small arms and fired at dozens of people who were sharing the sports area. So far there are five dead and nine injured.
The victims were identified as: Joel Enrique Fernández Medina, Milton Fabián Palma Mora, Ricardo Arturo Delgado Gilse, Juan Fernando Sangotuña Maya and Juan Carlos Mina Vernaza. Two of the deceased have a history of robbery, possession of weapons and drugs.
At 10:00 p.m., another massive attack occurred on 25 and O, in the suburb of Guayaquil, supposedly due to a dispute over territory. A 14-year-old minor, identified as Andy MV, died with several shots at the Guayaquil hospital and three more people were injured, including two minors under 16 years of age.
The murderers arrived in a vehicle and shot at the minors who were on a corner. It is presumed that the crime responds to the fight for territory for the sale of drugs. (I)
