In winter, a vehicle, regardless of road conditions, must provide high cross-country ability, reliable stability, dynamism and maneuverability – car tires play an important role in this. Valery Zhar, an auto expert of the Moscow Polytechnic University, told PRIME about this.

It’s important to use special tires and keep them properly inflated, he says, and tire pressures are listed on a plaque attached to the back of the driver’s door opening.

As the specialist pointed out, a feature of tire inflation in the winter period of operation is a decrease in the optimal pressure by 0.1-0.2 kgf / cm2. By reducing the pressure in the tires by the specified amount, the area of u200bu200bcontact between the tire and the road increases, thereby ensuring high cross-country ability and smooth running of the car. In addition, the load on the tires is reduced when environmental conditions change.

“This is true in case of sudden warming or when the car is parked in a heated box. We all know that when high temperatures are applied to a body, it expands. We observe the same effect with air pressure in tires – it increases. In order for the pressure not to go beyond the optimal, the driver must maintain its value within the above limits, ”said Zhar.

At the same time, he recalled that the compressor produces warm air, which is heated by its operation, however, passing through the hose and getting into the cold tire, it cools down to ambient temperature.

In all other respects, with regard to tire inflation, the driver must follow the operating instructions, the expert concluded.
