The United States is concerned about Russia’s actions not only in Ukraine, but also in other parts of the world. This, according to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, he told his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov during the talks in Geneva.
According to Blinken, it is possible to continue working with Russia on security, but for this it must stop “aggression.”
At the same time, he assured, if Russia decides to continue the aggression against Ukraine, the United States is ready to give a “united, quick and tough response.”
The US Secretary of State emphasized that if Russia wants to convince the world of the absence of aggressive plans, it should start with the withdrawal of troops from the borders of Ukraine. At the same time, he heard the words of a colleague about the absence of Russian plans to invade Ukraine. But Washington looks not at words, but at deeds – “that’s the difference,” Blinken said.
He added that Russian actions have exacerbated the problems that Moscow is trying to solve. And if now Moscow resumes its aggression against Kiev, then in the end those tendencies “about which Russia expresses concern” will intensify. At the same time, the talks held on Friday allowed the parties to better understand each other’s positions.
As for the security proposals, Blinken promised to present them to the Russian side in detailed form and in writing next week. “And we agreed to have further discussions,” he added.
In addition, according to the Secretary of State, US President Joe Biden is ready to meet again with Russian leader Vladimir Putin if this helps resolve the crisis.
We add that the meeting between Lavrov and Blinken in Geneva was the second between the delegations of the Russian Federation and the United States regarding security guarantees in Europe. The first took place on January 10. At the end of 2021, Russia presented the United States with a vision of security in Europe and is now waiting for written responses from the American side to its proposals.
