For the executive director of the Ecuadorian Transit Commission (CTE), Carlos Balarezo, the infrastructure of the E25 is the main cause for the number of claims. “In many cases they are roads with one lane in each direction, which generates insecurity, especially in the matter of overtaking (passing), in certain sections there are no rest areas and mainly we have had an increase in accidents with motorcyclists. ”, he pointed out.
In addition, he pointed out that the CTE has identified black points that correspond to the number of injured and deceased that have been reported in the same sector. Along the entire E25 route, which is 664 kilometers long, a total of 1,131 injured and 161 deceased.
Balarezo also stressed that the country’s roads they do not have the necessary number of audits. In this case, the Ministry of Transport and Public Works is in charge of executing them, explained the official.
However, according to information provided by the CTE, the number of claims, deaths and injuries reported in 2021, compared to 2019, has decreased. They did not take 2020 as a reference due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
