The Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) strongly advises Russian carriers to monitor possible problems with the impact of fifth-generation 5G mobile networks on the operation of on-board equipment when flying to other countries.
The corresponding recommendations were given against the backdrop of a large-scale deployment of 5G networks in the United States, which has already resulted in difficulties with flights in the country, the Kommersant newspaper reports today.
According to the publication, Russian airlines will have to conduct training sessions with imitation of unreliable operation of equipment. At the same time, the situation primarily affects Aeroflot, which has not yet encountered failures due to 5G.
Recall that earlier, American and international air carriers had problems operating flights to some US airports due to the fact that the deployment of 5G networks near the runways can lead to malfunctions of radio altimeters – devices that are used when landing in poor visibility conditions. As a result, AT&T and Verizon, which are rolling out 5G networks in the US, have postponed the commissioning of some towers near certain airports, which was scheduled to be completed on January 19.
