Spanish ships join NATO naval forces in the Mediterranean and Black Seas. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of the country Margarita Roblis, writes Reuters.

According to the minister, the decision was made due to tensions in the region caused by the buildup of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine.

The Spanish minister stressed that “Russia cannot tell any country what to do, therefore NATO will protect and defend the sovereignty of any state that can or wants to join NATO.”

Robblis noted that the minesweeper is already on the way, and the frigate will leave within three to four days. The possibility of sending fighters to Bulgaria is also being considered.

It should be noted that relations between Russia and Ukraine have been experiencing another round of aggravation since November, when reports appeared in the media about the movement of Russian military equipment in the border regions. This prompted claims of an allegedly impending Russian invasion of Ukraine.
