President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko today signed a decree by which he set the date for a referendum on the issue of amendments and additions to the Constitution of the country. It is scheduled for February 27, 2022.

As the press service of the head of state clarifies, the decree determines the wording of the question submitted to the referendum, which is reproduced verbatim in the ballot: “Do you accept amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?”

Earlier, we recall, in Belarus, a draft “updated” constitution was published, giving immunity to the head of state. The document also contains a provision on the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, which can become another body of power in the republic, in addition to the parliament and the president.

The US State Department stated that the draft amendments to the Belarusian Constitution allow for the possibility of deploying Russian nuclear weapons on the territory of the republic.
