Aleksey Venediktov, editor-in-chief of Ekho Moskvy radio station, believes that the likelihood of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is not too high, but it is necessary to “withdraw troops” from the Ukrainian border. He stated this on the air of his radio station, Dialog.UA reports.
“Everyone understands perfectly well that the probability of war exists, but it is not very high in the sense of“ tanks – forward ”,” Venediktov is convinced.
At the same time, he warned that so many weapons were concentrated around Ukraine and on its territory that a war could start by accident. “There is a threat of a gun, which, according to (writer Anton) Chekhov, hangs on the wall and can shoot by itself. Therefore, it is very important to disarm, withdraw the troops,” the editor-in-chief urged.
Recall that in November-December last year, the world media was filled with the topic of the alleged Russian invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions that should follow. According to the authors and experts of these publications, a sign of “invasion” is the concentration of Russian military equipment in the regions bordering Ukraine. Among the likely sanctions are both the shutdown of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, as well as restrictions against Russian energy companies, and the shutdown of the SWIFT system of “fast” financial settlements.
Earlier, Venediktov suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to solve problems with the collapsed confrontation with NATO, but, according to the journalist, the Russian leader’s ultimatum demands to the North Atlantic Alliance (including the non-expansion of the organization to the east with the involvement of Ukraine) are designed for internal Russian audience.
