The mayor of Guayaquil, Cynthia Viteri, referred this Thursday morning to the murder of the Dutch tourist that occurred in an establishment on Santa Ana Hill, in the downtown area of the city.
Viteri has remarked that “the absolute responsibility for controlling crime in the country lies with the central government.”
The official used her social networks to make this comment after a television program addressed this case and referred to the responsibilities of the Municipality in terms of security.
“Unless you change the Constitution, through a National Constituent Assembly, the absolute responsibility for controlling crime in the country belongs to the central government,” he responded to that program.

Witnesses point out that the 56-year-old tourist, who was accompanied by two women, tried to protect his belongings. This provoked the anger of one of the individuals, who shot him.

The Police indicate that two individuals would have participated in this incident. They are identified. One of them is a subject who had already been captured months ago and placed under the orders of the authorities. According to the Police, residents of the hill know them, as they roam the sector.
In videos shared by residents of the area, it is observed that the foreigner was removed from the establishment on a stretcher by paramedics from the Guayaquil Fire Department.

The evacuation of the foreigner was complex due to the narrow stairs where the place where the events occurred is located.
Once the Dutch citizen arrived at a health home to be treated, the doctors confirmed his death.
The head of the 9 de Octubre zone said that the relief elements arrived 35 minutes after the event was reported.
