The former Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Vladimir (Kotlyarov) died at the age of 93. He died after a long illness, according to the press service of the Metropolia.
“Metropolitan Vladimir (Kotlyarov), the ruling bishop of the St. Petersburg diocese in 1995-2014, honorary rector of the Cathedral of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, an honorary citizen of St. Petersburg, has passed away to the Lord,” the message says.
Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill expressed his condolences on the death of Vladimir.
Recall that Vladimir Kotlyarov was born on May 27, 1929 in Kazakhstan in the family of a deacon. Having received his education at the Dzhambul Statistical College, he entered the Moscow Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1952. In 1958 he graduated from the Leningrad Theological Academy with a degree in theology, where he taught liturgy and the Holy Scriptures of the Old Testament.
On December 27, 1995, he was appointed administrator of the St. Petersburg diocese and a permanent member of the Holy Synod. Left the post in March 2014.
