The Moldovan government has approved an individual plan for cooperation with NATO. It is reported by News Maker.
The plan involves political consultations by Moldova with NATO countries at all levels on foreign and security policy, on the situation in the region, as well as on promoting reforms, in particular those related to the policy of “good governance”, gender inclusiveness and modernization of the security sector and defense.
The Moldovan authorities also plan to intensify negotiations on the situation in the region in the 5+2 format (Moldova, Transnistria, the OSCE, Russia, Ukraine and observers from the US and the EU).
Recall that in the summer of 1992, the Russian Federation sent a peacekeeping contingent to Transnistria due to the aggravation of the situation in the region. Currently there is a task force of Russian troops.
In 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution providing for the withdrawal of peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie. The Russian Foreign Ministry called this decision a provocation, and the authorities of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic refused to withdraw the Russian military.
