The World Health Organization (WHO) Committee on the COVID-19 Emergency has recommended to the global community that international travel restrictions be lifted or relaxed, pointing to their ineffectiveness.
As noted in the committee, the spread of omicron could not be stopped by bans, so it is obvious that such restrictions are not beneficial and continue to contribute to economic and social stress, TASS reports.
The committee believes that one should not “require evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 for international travel as the only means or condition” to enter the country. Motivating their position, the experts explained that access to vaccines in the world remains limited, and their distribution is unequal.
The committee called for recognition by countries “in the context of international travel” of all vaccines approved by the WHO for emergency use against the coronavirus.
