Ministry of Public Health analyzes placing Sinovac anti-coronavirus vaccine in 5-year-old children as well

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) analysis the possibility also to place the vaccine Sinovac against the coronavirus to 5-year-old children as it is done, since last Monday, with the infants from 6 to 11 years old.

In a statement, that State portfolio, on October 13, had reported that for those of 5 years to 5 years with 11 months and 29 days the vaccine will be used Pfizer and for those of 6 years to 11 years with 11 months and 29 days the of Sinovac.

According the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, the Advisory Commission on Immunization Practices has recommended in addition to using the Sinovac vaccine keep an eye on the effects that can be attributed to vaccinations.

For that advisory group, according to the official, the Sinovac vaccine is safe and effective in the population aged 5 to 11 years, to prevent deaths or worsening of the coronavirus disease.

“These adverse effects must be reported and we must also promote, as far as possible, over a long period of time, with the universities the effectiveness studies; we are doing this at the moment in the Ministry of Public Health ”, said Garzón, in a dialogue with the media.

The official added that once the vaccination is finished Information will be collected from children between 6 and 11 years old, the statistical variables that are needed to determine the effectiveness in the local population.
