US President Joe Biden promised Russia a “catastrophe” in the event of a further aggravation of the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border.

Speaking at a press conference marking the first anniversary of his presidency, Biden said that if Russia “continues to conquer Ukraine,” it will have to “pay a heavy price in the medium and long term.”

Asked why the threat of new US sanctions should affect Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Biden stressed that Putin “never saw sanctions” like those that the US administration could impose in the event of a Russian “invasion” of Ukraine. According to him, the sanctions can affect “everything that is connected with the dollar.”

“If they bring troops in, they will pay. Their banks will not be able to conduct transactions with dollars, ”said the American president. At the same time, he noted the possible negative effect of such sanctions on the US and European economies.

Biden also added that Russia is much stronger militarily than Ukraine and will win in the event of a conflict, but the cost of victory and the consequences of an attack will be high.

Recall, earlier it was reported that in the event of an escalation, the United States could leave the Russian Federation without electronic chips and access to the global electronics market.
