The Russian Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-Term Forecasting named the sectors of the economy where the largest number of bankruptcies of legal entities occurred in 2021, RBC reports. Among them are transport, where the number of bankruptcies among legal entities in 2021 increased by 18% compared to 2020, mechanical engineering (growth by 12.7%), construction (growth by 9.5%). At the same time, the number of bankruptcies turned out to be “below average” in the power industry (growth by 2.6%) and trade (1%), while in the field of commercial services, agriculture and the food industry it decreased by 1.4%, 3.5% and 8 .5% respectively.

At the same time, the overall increase in the number of bankruptcies, which exceeded the figures for 2020 by 3.4%, is assessed as insignificant compared to 2020, when the government moratorium on external bankruptcies was in effect, introduced specifically for companies affected by COVID-19. This is due to “the most powerful growth in company revenues.” According to Rosstat, in the first nine months of 2021, Russian businesses earned 2.8 times more than in the same period in 2020, and 58% more than in the first nine months of 2019.
