The detention of the REvil hacker group may affect the well-being of domestic companies. So say experts interviewed by RIA Novosti.

According to the head of the Group-IB Computer Forensics Laboratory, Oleg Skulkin, there has not yet been a significant decrease in the number of ransomware attacks, while “the current situation may negatively affect Russian companies – Russian-speaking cybercriminals may attack them more actively.”

The expert notes that over the past two years, ransomware attacks in Russia and the CIS have become more frequent, and the detention of REvil may spur them on, because after successful international operations, they may forget about unspoken prohibitions.

Pavel Korostelev, head of the Security Code product promotion department, added that after the arrest of REvil, gangs of hackers in Russia may hide or slightly reduce the intensity of attacks, but they definitely will not give up on them. “If it will be easier for business, then not for long,” the expert is sure.

Recall that earlier a court in Moscow arrested eight alleged members of the REvil hacker group. The basis was an appeal from the United States. The group was accused of a large-scale cyber attack on American companies.
