Resident of Volgograd region sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for burning partner, but blames accident

The Volgograd city court sentenced a resident of the city of Kalach-on-Don to 12.5 years in prison for burning his girlfriend. In addition, he must pay compensation in the amount of 800 thousand rubles to the daughter of the deceased.

According to investigators, the murder, committed with particular cruelty, occurred during a quarrel that took place in the kitchen. The defendant poured some of the gasoline in the fuel canister onto the floor and set it on fire. His girlfriend received burns that covered 55% of her body area and died in a medical facility a few days later.

The 64-year-old Salamat Kalmuratov himself denies the accusations and assures that the sister of his cohabitant, who drove the “relative” out of the house, and the accident are to blame for everything. According to him, in response to the claims made against him, he announced that he had built the house himself and had the right to set fire to it. The woman allegedly accused him of cowardice, in response he splashed gasoline on the floor and struck a lighter, which seemed to accidentally fall out of his hands. He failed to put out the fire, as he was originally going to – he lost consciousness and woke up only after the appearance of the police.
