Since its arrival in the 1970s, the BAE has traveled some 555,000 nautical miles.
The Guayas School Ship is located in Curaçao, the first port of its 2022 journey that began weeks ago when it set sail from Guayaquil.
The Navy shared a photo of the ship entering Curaçao, flying the Ecuadorian flag.
This is a training cruise for future officers, who during this trip receive academic and naval instruction on the conduct of surface units.
In addition to Curaçao, the ship will also pass through Panama, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Peru.
The flagship of the Navy was fired from Guayaquil at the end of last December in a ceremony attended by President Guillermo Lasso, who expressed support for the members that make up the entity.
Seven destinations on the new route of the Guayas School Ship
Called Velas Latinoamérica 2022, the cruise departed with 145 crew members (men and women). It is the 33rd voyage of this ship.
Brumel Vázquez Bermúdez, commander of the Navy, said during the ship’s farewell that this journey “serves to temper the seafaring spirit and the particularities of each port visited.”
Since its arrival in the 1970s, the BAE has traveled some 555,000 nautical miles.
Vázquez said that the cruise will last about five months through the countries on the route. It is anticipated to cover 14,200 nautical miles. (I)
